Entry and/or mid-level environmental consultant

Redcedar Environmental Consulting Inc. is looking to hire an environmental consultant for a permanent full-time entry-level position. Only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. Details are below.

Redcedar Environmental operates out of Chilliwack BC.

The position will be based out of the Chilliwack office and will include a mix of office and field work in the Lower Mainland.

Opportunities to work from home will continue until COVID measures are no longer in place, with a hybrid model available once office work resumes in November 2021.

Candidates seeking alternative work schedules or special allowances are encouraged to apply but must clearly identify preferred schedules. Although this is an entry-level position, applicants with more experience are welcome to apply.

Redcedar Environmental provides environmental consulting services predominantly to private residential, commercial, and/or industrial developers. Work will include a combination of terrestrial and aquatic habitat assessments following common industry standards (e.g. Riparian Areas Protection Regulation; RISC), environmental monitoring, and erosion and sediment control monitoring. On occasion, Redcedar Environmental undertakes habitat restoration projects. Candidates will be expected to participate in planting works in physically challenging conditions.

Redcedar Environmental is expanding into the field of arborist consulting services. Candidates with experience in this field are encouraged to apply.

Although chemical treatment of invasive and noxious weeds is not currently a service offering, this is anticipated to become a new business line in the spring of 2021. The successful candidate will be expected to work in this area.

The ideal candidate will have completed environmental studies at the college and/or university level and must meet at least the academic requirements for registration as a technologist or biologist with the College of Applied Biology. Eventual registration with the College is strongly encouraged and will be supported by Redcedar Environmental. Successful candidates will be expected to work as per the requirements of the College of Applied Biology Code of Ethics. Professional experience in the environmental sector is not required but preferred. Candidates must provide their own vehicle, with work-related mileage to be reimbursed by Redcedar Environmental.

Following are the valued skillsets. It is not expected that candidates will have all of the skills below or be expert in each area.

  • Strong field technician skills and physically able to work long hours in difficult terrain and in all weather conditions.

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • Ability to recognize common native and non-native plant species.

  • Experience with natural resource measurements.

  • Experience with watercourse assessments and understanding of the basics of watercourse assessments.

  • Experience assessing terrestrial habitat conditions.

  • Knowledge of local wildlife species, with a focus on species at risk.

  • Ability to recognize birds by sight or call would be considered an asset.

  • Experience with AutoCAD would be considered an asset.

  • Experience with the use of GPS technology and GIS would be considered an asset.

  • Electrofishing certification would be considered an asset.

  • Herbicide applicator’s certificate would be considered an asset.

Through strategic partnerships with OTG Developments Ltd. and AMR Systems Ltd., Redcedar Environmental also provides some land use planning consulting services and professional survey services. Assistance in those fields may be required.

Full-time work at Redcedar Environmental consists of 72 to 80 hours every two weeks, with every second Friday off. Remuneration would be based on applicant experience and on typical industry standards.

Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter addressed to Rémi Masson at References will be requested.
